Introducing the DEGELID
The German Society for Eyelid Surgery (DEGELID e.V.) was founded in 2012 by the two specialists at Marienhospital Cologne – H. Aral and T. Kahlen – with the aim of sustainably promoting functional and aesthetic eyelid care.
The society brings together experts from ophthalmology, dermatology, plastic surgery, and related medical fields.
Training and Education in Eyelid Surgery
DEGELID offers structured course modules – video-based, operative, live-supervised, or strategically oriented.
Module 1 – Surgical Video Intensive Course
Upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty in detail.
A structured video-intensive training with full surgical sequences, markings, key steps, and complication patterns.

Module 4 – Consulting for Clinics & Medical Societies

Official Certification by the DEGELID
Participants in our structured course formats receive an official certificate from the German Society for Eyelid Surgery (DEGELID e.V.).
- Certificates for functional and aesthetic eyelid surgery
- CME points according to medical association criteria (depending on course)
- Proof of qualified training for clinic and practice
Certificates are issued after full participation and fulfillment of course requirements and are personally assigned to the participant.
Congresses
In 2016, DEGELID began organizing its own specialized congresses on operative and minimally invasive eyelid procedures – starting with the now established specialist congress in Cologne, LID.COLOGNE.
These events quickly gained growing interdisciplinary popularity. As additional specialties with a focus on facial treatments became involved, the congress evolved into FACE.COLOGNE® , where DEGELID continues to be primarily responsible for the eyelid-related program.
The international congress FACE.COLOGNE 2026 and further FACE.CONGRESSES are conceived and developed under the curatorial leadership of FACE FORUM™ and Facial Medicine Academy™.
Within this framework, the German Society for Eyelid Surgery (DEGELID e. V.) assumes primary responsibility for the scientific development and organization of the ophthalmoplastic and reconstructive surgical program.
